Harwood Community Garden
Can public sculpture become a beacon of existing neighborhood identity undergoing change? Can it bring neighbors together to share the wealth of a longstanding community asset?
The Harwood neighborhood is undergoing rapid change with city and state investments planned for the Greenmount Avenue corridor and the Waverly Main Street district.
After consultation with neighborhood and garden leadership and the need to solidify this community space for the years to come, Eassa led:
The process to coalesce neighbors, community associations, state and city philanthropic partners
Lead the collaborative design process, engaging neighbors and local creatives
Fundraised $30,000 in grant funding to support design and fabrication process
Fabricated and installed utilizing local maker space Open Works
Archway to the Garden highlights the pride and passion of a small community, signaling a welcome to all newcomers while paying respect to who and what has established this place.
